NTM Engineering, Inc., formerly Lotus Environmental Consulting, served as a subconsultant to McMahon Associates for this Streetscape Improvement Project located in both Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County and the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA. The purpose of the project is to alleviate the safety, traffic, and drainage issues that hinder the City Avenue District from revitalization in various phases.
The project is situated along City Avenue (SR 0001). The project involves improvements along City Avenue from the Wynnewood Road (SR 3044) intersection to the south, extending to the Bala Avenue (SR 3061) intersection to the north. The proposed project also involves improvements along Old Lancaster Avenue (Township) and 54th Street (City) at their intersection with City Avenue.
Phase 1 of the project, completed in the fall of 2017, installed adaptive traffic signal control and ADA curb ramp upgrades at 17 intersections along the City Avenue corridor from Lancaster Avenue (SR 0030) to the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) offramps. Phase 2 and 3 of the City Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project will reduce the existing roadway impervious cover by installing new mountable medians with grass and low-growth landscaping within areas of the existing two-way left-turn lane. Phase 2 and 3 will also include improvements to stormwater management along the corridor.
Lotus staff was responsible for the completion of the environmental, cultural, and sensitive waste investigations, and the completion of the Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant Environmental Document.
