Last evening, NTM staff attended the WTS Central PA Awards and Scholarship Gala at The Lodge at Liberty Forge in Mechanicsburg, PA, where NTM President Donna Newell received the 2023-2024 Woman of the Year Award!
WTS is an international organization of high-achieving men and women transportation professionals. Its mission is to attract, sustain, connect, and advance women’s careers to strengthen the transportation industry. The Central PA Chapter has over 100 registered members and has been supporting professionals in the transportation industry for over 22 years. The Gala honors those who have made major impacts to the local transportation industry and the chapter, as well as notable projects that have advanced the region. PA DEP Interim Acting Secretary Jessica Shirley was the Keynote Speaker for last night’s event.
The Woman of the Year Award honors a woman who is a leader in transportation and is an outstanding role model in the Transportation Industry. Donna, principal owner and president of NTM, a women-owned business enterprise (WBE), has over 28 years of civil engineering experience and specializes in hydrology and hydraulics (H&H).
Donna has been the WTS Central PA Gala Co-Chair for two years and encourages NTM staff to serve in leadership roles in community and professional associations, with many staff serving in various positions, including President for WTS Central PA. She was awarded the 2019 Engineer of the Year from Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council and is a member of WTS, ASHE, PAFPM, ASFPM, ACEC, ASCE, and MAFSM. She understands the importance of having diversity in positions of ownership and leadership with the ability to influence the policies, procedures, and vision of the firm. NTM staff is made up of 41% women, with 48% in senior manager positions.
Through her leadership, NTM has become an award-winning firm. NTM was named Employer of the Year for 2018 by WTS Central PA and has also been awarded the 2014 Top 100 MBE Firm for the Mid-Atlantic Region. NTM has made the Best Places to Work in PA list for 10 straight years. The program recognizes outstanding Pennsylvania places of employment and is a project of the Central Penn Business Journal. Donna is especially proud of this award because it’s employee-driven and very personal to NTM’s culture and growth.
The PennDOT District 3-0 Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation (CSVT) Project Northern Section was also awarded the Innovative Transportation Solution Award last evening. NTM served as a design consultant for the project, which Donna and Rachel Tereska oversaw the 2D hydraulic analysis for the River Bridge.
