- What’s an early memory from your first year at NTM?
Looking back, the fact that NTM once solely existed in 1/2 of the top floor of the Dillsburg office is astounding considering we now occupy the entire building and 3 other office locations! - What has been one of your most interesting projects and why?
SR 228 Mars Arch Culvert Extension. This project involved a 75′ long, cast-in-place extension of an existing reinforced concrete arch culvert for the widening of SR 228 in Butler County. The structural design and detailing were challenging because we had to transition the existing arch span of 26′-9″ to 36′-0″ to satisfy the hydraulic design. Additionally, the arch was oriented at a 55° skew which resulted in very complex geometry. At the end of the extension was a cast-in-place, counterfort spandrel wall. The spandrel wall design utilized a STAAD finite element model to compute the various load effects and the counterforts were designed using a strut & tie model. This was a one-of-kind project that often took an outside the box approach and I was proud to be a part of it. - What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy hunting, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and tinkering with my various hillbilly projects. - What is one of your proudest NTM moments or biggest accomplishments?
I am very proud of being a part of the amazing growth that NTM has experienced since I began in 2010. Specifically, the structure group consisted of just a few people when I began in 2010 and has close to tripled in size and our work and scope of services is well respected within the industry.
