As part of our 15-year anniversary celebration, throughout the year, we will be featuring our first 15 employees. We continue the celebration with NTM Project Manager, Francisco Aguirre!
Name: Francisco Aguirre, MS, PE
Title: Project Manager
Department: Hydrology and Hydraulics
- What’s an early memory from your first year at NTM? The first office space was an adventure! There are plenty of stories about the humble beginnings on the first office space. However, some of my favorite memories come from the first office because the warm office culture overshadowed the physical space. Walking up to the front desk or any of the offices was always welcomed with a big smile as well as the endless bits of chocolate.
- What has been one of your most interesting projects and why? The northern section of the CSVT project was one of the earliest projects I was involved with and where I got introduced to two dimensional (2D) hydraulic models. The project involved a new bridge crossing over the West Branch Susquehanna River which was a challenge. The existing hydraulic model involved an in-depth calibration of the results, and the proposed study included a detailed alternatives analysis to better evaluate the floodplain impacts. The 2D modeling results helped to evaluate the true impact of the project and to select an alternative that minimized flood impacts.
- What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors skiing, kayaking, biking, or hiking. In Philadelphia, I have found several trails close to the city that are easy to reach after a workday. When the weather cooperates, I love going for a bike ride to any of the nearby trails. I did a long gravel bike race last year that really pushed my limits but loved it and planning to do it again this year!
- What is one of your proudest NTM moments or biggest accomplishments? Several of the projects that the H&H team have worked on are very unique and challenging. The analysis and results for some of the unique projects have been presented on local and national conferences with great feedback, which is a great accomplishment for our team. I felt proud to present some of our team’s work at a couple of conferences.
