As part of our 15-year anniversary celebration, throughout the year, we will be featuring our first 15 employees. We continue the celebration with NTM Principal Rachel Tereska, MS, PE!
Name: Rachel Tereska, MS, PE
Title: Principal
Department: Hydrology and Hydraulics
- What’s an early memory from your first year at NTM? Thinking back to NTM’s first hires in our first office space, we had simple beginnings and I feel incredibly grateful that they took a leap of faith with us. The building had no elevator with the steepest, narrowest staircase. We brought tools and assembled our own office furniture. You could use the microwave and run copies from the same spot in the lunchroom!
- What has been one of your most interesting projects and why? The I-83 North York Widening project has been one of my longest and most interesting projects. It has been technically challenging with complicated H&H and permitting of various phases, and it has expanded my understanding of large corridor projects, public involvement, agency coordination, and flood control regulations.
- What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work? I find great relaxation in the outdoors and enjoy hiking and camping. Photography is my go-to creative outlet; I have a fascination with capturing sunsets, waterfalls, and the night sky.
- What is one of your proudest NTM moments or biggest accomplishments? The growth of our NTM family over the last 15 years fills me with pride and appreciation. Our staff have increased more than tenfold, but it’s about more than just numbers. It’s about living life alongside co-workers that are like family. Whether it’s completing a project, buying a home, obtaining a master’s degree, getting married, being promoted, having a child, or adopting a pet―it brings great joy to celebrate personal and professional milestones together!
