As part of a team, NTM Engineering helped develop a new Bridge Design Manual and bridge design training course for the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT). The new manual, in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), was developed as a training program for DelDOT’s newly hired bridge engineers, as well as private engineering firms working on DelDOT bridges. The 493-page manual, a three-year effort, documents the Department’s bridge design policies and preferences.
NTM was responsible for the Manual’s “Section 104 – Hydrology and Hydraulics.” Tasks involved researching literature on other state DOT manuals, comparing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) methodology, reviewing revised federal and state policies that impact H&H analysis, and producing the new H&H section for the manual.
NTM President Donna Newell, MS, PE, CFM participated in an all-day training session for DelDOT in-house staff and consultants on November 5, 2015. The training was intended to educate DelDOT and consultant personnel in the correct and consistent implementation of the documented design preferences.
