NTM Engineering, Inc., formerly Lotus Environmental Consulting, served as a subconsultant to Bergmann Associates for the replacement of the SR 1021, Sec. 03B (Forgedale Road) over Bieber Creek in Rockland Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The proposed project will replace the existing two-lane, single span, reinforced concrete closed spandrel arch bridge that is supported on reinforced concrete substructures. The existing structure, originally constructed in 1913 and had been closed to traffic due to its poor condition. The new structure is a single-span prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge with two 11-foot-wide travel lanes with 4-foot-wide shoulders. The horizontal profile of the new bridge was shifted upstream to avoid cultural resources.
NTM (Lotus) staff were responsible for project scoping and the Level 1b CE, wetland delineation, threatened and endangered species surveys for bog bluegrass and the bog turtle, a Phase I archaeological survey, above ground historic resource surveys, and the joint permit, Environmental Assessment, and assisting with public outreach.
